Diabetes

Waterbury HEALTH’s diabetes services offer comprehensive care for patients with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA), monogenic diabetes (MODY) and gestational diabetes.

Diabetes care is provided by our Alliance Medical Group Endocrinology Offices. Our team consists of endocrinologists, advanced nurse practitioners (APRN), diabetes educators and endocrine licensed nurses, who are very experienced and efficient in managing patients with diabetes.

Our team teaches patients how to manage diabetes and be as healthy as possible by focusing on seven self-care behaviors: healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medication, problem-solving, healthy coping and reducing risks.

Our Services

Type 1 Diabetes Care
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disorder where a person’s pancreas produces little or no insulin, therefore insulin treatment is needed for a lifetime.

Our Endocrinologists work with patients who have type 1 Diabetes through education and support, insulin therapy, blood sugar checks and nutritional guidance.

Type 2 Diabetes Care
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition where the pancreas can produce insulin, but a person's body isn't able to use or process the insulin being made.

Our Endocrinologists work with patients who have type 2 diabetes by focusing on diet and blood sugar-reducing medications, including insulin. They will also work to control blood sugar and monitor them so they can prevent health problems.

Gestational Diabetes
We prioritize care for our pregnant patients knowing that the health of the mother and baby often depends on the help with glucose control.

Our Endocrinologists can help Gestational Diabetes patients through diabetes medication, managing blood sugar levels, nutritional support and insulin therapy.
