Our state-of-the-art equipment make it easier and safer to get diagnostic testing including mammograms, bone scans, brain scans and other internal organ imaging which help doctors make the most accurate diagnosis. We offer inpatient at Waterbury Hospital and outpatient services to patients. Our skilled technicians are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with advanced certifications in other modalities including CT Scan, mammography, ultrasound and nuclear medicine.

MRI Scans

Located on the Waterbury Hospital campus, the Greater Waterbury Imaging Center provides state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services. With two high-field scanners on the premises, the Center offers the expertise of board-certified radiologists with special training in musculoskeletal and neuro-imaging, as well as a highly trained staff skilled in serving both adults and children. The Center focuses on providing quality care in a spacious, warm atmosphere, with hours of operation tailored to meet the needs of today’s busy patients who benefit by a choice of day, evening or weekend appointments. Results and digital images are available promptly for referring physicians.

Board-certified radiologists with special training in musculoskeletal and neuro-imaging are on site. Results and digital images are available promptly for referring physicians.

X-ray

Commonly performed for detection of bone injuries, tumors, infection and other serious conditions, diagnostic  X-ray (radiography) uses electromagnetic energy beams to produce images onto film or computer. X-ray is available in the following locations

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is an imaging technique that uses radioactive tracers to reveal how the body is functioning. Patients are given a small amount of this tracer through an IV or ingestion, where it then collects in certain organs and tissues. These areas become highlighted in the subsequent images, which help our physicians diagnose our patients.

 

Electroencephalogram [EEG]

Waterbury Hospital can administer an electroencephalogram (EEG) to patients, which is a test that detects electrical activity in the brain using electrodes attached to the scalp. Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology uses minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat disease. Small tools, such as catheters or wires, are inserted into the body under live X-ray to help guide the radiologist. Procedures include port-a-cath and perm-a-cath insertions, angiography of the arteries and veins and angioplasty to open up an area of blockage inside the vessel.
